These are days when many are discouraged. In the 93 years of my life, depressions have come and gone. Prosperity has always returned and will again”, John D Rockefeller. The Great Depression was used in the 21st century as an example of how far the world economy can fall. It started in 1939 and ended in 1930 and was a worldwide down full that effected many countries.  The Great Depression originated in the United States. It was the starting date of the Stock Market Crash on October 29, 1929 and ended with the association of the war economy of World War 2. Personal income, tax revenues, price and profit were all affected by the depression as well as international trade.  60 percent of crop prices fell due to farming and rural area suffrage. Milton Friedman and  Federal Reserve System chairman Ben Bernanke, argue that the Great Depression was caused by the consequence of poor policymaking by the American Federal Reserve System and continuous crisis in the banking system. Beside the United States being involved with the Great Depression other countries, such as Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Latin America, South Africa, Netherlands, Soviet Union and the United Kingdom, have all experience some sort of negative effect of it. President Hoover was advised by Secretary of Treasury Andrew Mellon that shock treatment would be the best way to get the country out of depression. High cost of living and high living will decrease and people will work harder and live moral lives. Hoover disagreed and made numerous programs, but all failed. If President Hoover couldn’t get us out of the depression, what makes one think our current or future President can?  October 2008 the total unemployment rate was 6.5 percent. 4 to 5 percent unemployment is considered full time. So many people have financial problems because we have such a high unemployment rate. With President bush in office we have wasted billions of dollars  to the war, when half that money could have went to organizations in the United States that need the money to improve their situations .   In the news many reporters have questioned whether we are in a recession or not, but with the United States practically in debt we may be heading for another depression.  With this crisis on hand it is causing people to foreclosure homes and cars, and even business are having trouble keeping up with finances. We as a country focus on how important education is, but willing to do anything financial to help, especially those who are seeking higher education. Another financial problem is that the United States has a fast growing population with immigration being a large number, but cyclical, not enough jobs to go around. And with not enough jobs to go around families are struggling to pay bills, eat, medical attention and clothing. However, we can improve our financial crisis if we all at least try. Instead of wasting billions of dollars, lets save it. One would see on television advertising for “Green” using celebrities.  Green is the slogan used for saving, not just our country but our entire world.  We as a country are starting to see the importance of money wasting, especially in our environment. Instead of just throwing trash in waste lands, we recycle everything and make something new. Some states are already using the windmills to save energy. As for education, President Bush issued a new loan for all universities or colleges that every student is eligible for get regardless of FASFA. Also, with Bush term coming to end, our new President, Obama plans to have every person in the United States employed, because there will be enough jobs. Another way to decrease financial crisis is that we as a country work with the banks. Learn how to manage money, learn the terms and definitions of words bankers use and know the background of the bank, foundation or where ever put his or her money. We as a country cannot help improve another country, if we cannot improve our own. America is considered to be one of the richest and powerful country. And if we want to keep that idea, we must improve ourselves financial.  We have to put our own country needs first before anyone else, because when we lose focus of what important over here things start to fall apart right under our nose or sometimes, we see the problem, but neglect it because we don’t know what to do.  We have fallen already financial in 1929, but now we have the tools and technology where it can be preventing from falling again, we just have to really care enough about our country to keep us from falling again.

Re: America and Financial crisis

I like this essay. However in the opening you put the wrong dates, and just minor spelling. Overall, I agree with your point of view, namely taking care of issues here first and foremost.

Re: America and Financial crisis

You have great points! You did have the wrong date listed in the beginning but no big deal! You have great ideas on how to save not only our economy but our environment as well.

Re: America and Financial crisis

Hey Trevonne,

Great essay! I really liked your ideas on how we can save and change our economy. As others said a few of the dates were incorrect in the introduction, but other than that, wonderful job!

Re: America and Financial crisis

Trevon,
Overall I liked your paper but you made some significant errors regarding the Great depression. Other than that I liked what you had to say.

Re: America and Financial crisis

Trevonne,

I think you did a great job on your essay. I liked that you hit on a very wide range of issues from the Great Depression era to the Financial Aid for students. I also like that you have a very positive outlook on things. Your opening quote is what really got my attention to read your essay! It is hard to have hope in our leaders from the past, but hopefully times will change and we will come out on top!

Re: America and Financial crisis

Think about structuring your essay. Find out what you want to emphasize, what is most important, and then break it up into segments. This whole essay kind of seemed like one long winded rant. And whereas there is nothing wrong with that, for essay purposes, you'll find it easier to communicate your ideas if you have some sort of structure to your work.

Good job.

Re: America and Financial crisis

Trevonne, talking about the recession and about immigration and their not enough jobs for all the people in the world.and talking about President Obama, and yes to decrease the financial crisis is that we as a country work with the banks and for everybody to learn how to manange money.

Re: America and Financial crisis

I really like how you wrote this essay it was really different then other people, and that made it a lot easier to read. You had great points and you stuck to all of them and you even had some great ways to fix the problems that we are dealing with. What a great job. I hope this really works out for you.
