The Senate Budget Committee is holding confirmation hearings today on Jim Nussle, President Bush's nominee to run the Office of Management and Budget. The nomination has been somewhat controversial, and most of the Hill discussion and media coverage has been about what Nussle's appointment means in the context of the game of chicken the White House and Congress are having over this year's spending bills. Fair enough. But if the folks on the Hill don't mind a suggestion, it'd be good for everybody, especially the public, to really spend time discussing how Nussle, a former House Budget Committee chairman, wants to approach the long-term problems, like entitlements.
