For the last three years I have lived in Emporia, Kansas, the whole world could fall down and the only way we would know is by watching the news.  Prior to this election and the recent financial crisis, I could have cared less about the DOW, or any other terms used by annalists that mean nothing to me.  Now, I have realized that understanding the flow of money in our economy is just like understanding history that there, cycles, and patterns of our society.  For me the current financial crisis can only be a personal lesson one how to manage my money.

Our country is run by big corporations, and now these big companies are asking for considerable sums of money in order to keep their businesses afloat.  Do I think that the bailout is important? The answer is yes.  I believe that it will favor our country to give these companies a leg to stand on, in hopes that the money will replenish our economy.  These companies employ large populations of working class people, that is why we should initiate the bailout, not for the high paid CEO’s that mismanaged their companies money in the first place. This time of year is crucial in giving our economy a burst, but if the large population of working class citizens is worried about losing their jobs they will be reluctant to spend money during the holidays, which will just continue the recession we have started.  No one person can predict the future, except Alan Greenspan, and even he couldn’t prevent our countries recession.  A big concern I have is concerning my college education.  I am a student that is going to depend on getting a loan to finish my degree, is this crisis going to make it harder for average students to take out a loan?  Part of the reason our country entered a recession is because banks were approving loans to people, and businesses that were unable to pay for them, leaving a number of businesses out to dry.  I only hope that through the economic bailout the United States financial crisis will subside.

Re: Saving Ourselves

Hey Shelbe!

I liked your essay, and i really like how you used yourself in the essay letting others know what the future will hold for us, and how the economic bailout crisis could damage alot that we have worked for in this country.

Re: Saving Ourselves

I like the way you adress many issues of younger people, making this personal. I think also though, that mabe also talking about people that used the bailout to have CEOs go on holiday would be good for adressing counter arguements.

Re: Saving Ourselves

Shelbe,

I can understand your comments about living in Emporia, KS; however, regardless of where a person lives, it’s impossible to disregard the harmful effects of the current financial crisis. Consequently, I agree that an economics background is imperative. One of the especially devastating results of our financial crisis can be associated with education; albeit education is indispensable and it should be viewed that way.

Re: Saving Ourselves

I like your use of using Emporia, Kansas and how it is personalized for what we are dealing with while living here. You have a great understanding of how the bailout will affect people and you stated it in a very clear and informative way.

Re: Saving Ourselves

Shelbea,
You did an excellent job of making this assignment relevent to the younger generations. If people our age cannot relate to the subject matter they will most likely have difficulty understanding it. Great job!!

Re: Saving Ourselves

I liked reading this essay, because it was personalized. I felt I could relate to these issues, myself being a student. Great Job

Re: Saving Ourselves

Shelbe,

I really like your essay because it came straight from you. It opened my eyes a bit as well because I was very one sided about the bailouts of the large companies and how it effects our economy right now in my eyes. I liked how you commented on how you were a college student and how you are worried this was all going to effect you and the rest of the college students in the US. That is a big issue that is becomming more real to people and becomming even more scary for them!

Re: Saving Ourselves

I like the fact that you didn't start out by talking about our counrty or haveing a statistic. you started out talking about yourself. and how you don't understand half the stuff finacial personal talk about and all you care about is managing your own money. I like the fact that you started out different.
